About The Position

The purpose of the Pedestrian Data Collector is to precisely gather and document pedestrian data at designated intersections, offering essential insights for the Ottawa Safety Council (OSC) and the City of Ottawa. Through meticulous pedestrian volume tracking, the pedestrian counter aids the OSC and the City of Ottawa in strategizing the most effective locations and requirements for Crossing Guards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record data.
  • Excellent observational skills and ability to maintain focus during repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and follow established protocols and procedures.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Availability to work Monday to Friday; all AM (7:30 AM – 9:30 AM) and all PM shifts (2:30 PM – 4:30 PM).
  • Availability to work at all intersections identified in your indicated zone/teams/neighborhoods.
  • Access to a smart phone with data is currently a requirement.
  • Driver's license and access to a vehicle – essential.
  • Effective communications (technical, verbal, and listening) skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to a work schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in data collection, field research, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with data entry software or applications such as electronic counting devices is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
