This major national rail programme is focused on delivering a modern, electrified high-speed corridor that will strengthen connectivity between key urban centres. The scheme aims to significantly reduce journey times, enhance passenger capacity, and support long term decarbonisation goals. Development is progressing toward phased delivery over the next decade. Acts as the subject matter expert for PMO and Project Controls, leading high‑performing teams to deliver best‑in‑class services across assigned hubs. Engages with industry and professional bodies to elevate Mace’s profile, ensuring our service offering consistently exceeds client expectations and maintains a strong competitive advantage.

Requirements

  • Experience delivering major rail or high‑speed programmes, ideally within the design or early set‑up stages.
  • Chartered professional (RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE) with a relevant degree or equivalent.
  • Extensive PMO and Project Controls leadership on major programmes.
  • Strong commercial, financial, risk and digital tool capability.
  • Proven senior‑level stakeholder leadership with deep sector and sustainability awareness.

  • Lead key assignments with strategic clarity, delivering best‑in‑class PMO and Project Controls services and strong industry engagement.
  • Uphold ethical, fiscally responsible operations and shape long‑term functional strategy.
  • Mentor and develop teams, sharing expertise, driving innovation and supporting talent growth across the business.
  • Leads PMO and Project Controls performance across assigned hubs, ensuring best‑practice and ISO‑aligned delivery.
  • Acts as subject matter expert, directing all technical and digital PMO and Project Controls services.
  • Provides specialist guidance and strong client partnership, supporting projects across hubs and exceeding expectations.
  • Role‑models excellence, mentoring others and championing net‑zero objectives through proactive carbon management.
