About The Position

This is a part-time position for a PCU RN working the 7 PM to 7 AM shift. The role involves providing direct patient care in a critical care setting, including medication administration, hemodynamic monitoring, patient assessment, and care planning. The nurse will also be responsible for patient and family education, cardiac monitoring, managing nutritional and fluid/electrolyte status, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Strong communication, organizational, and stress management skills are essential. The position requires adherence to hospital ethics, compliance programs, and standards of performance, including maintaining patient confidentiality and addressing psychosocial needs.

Requirements

Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.
Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
Current state of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure.
BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

Two or more years of recent critical care experience preferred.
Successful completion of critical care orientation preferred.
SCU ACLS and PALS required within one year.
PCU ACLS and PALS highly recommended.

Responsibilities

Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment, and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Family is included in teaching as appropriate.
Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately based upon ACLS protocol.
Provides care to patients with compromised nutritional/metabolic status.
Provides care to patients requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers, and physicians.
Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
Provides care appropriate to disease condition and age of the patient including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures both in the SCU and in other departments.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensure patient confidentiality.
Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
Ability to assess and care for patients in the post anesthesia period, both in the PACU and SCU.
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s/department’s ethics and compliance program.
Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor or upward through chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or hospital hotline.
Employee adheres to and practices the standards of performance outlines in the Standards of Performance handbook.
