Senior/Staff PCB Layout Engineer

Skydio•San Mateo, CA
•$147,500 - $210,000

About The Position

Skydio is hiring a Senior/Staff-level PCB Layout Engineer to execute complex PCB layouts for next-generation autonomous drone products. The role works cross-functionally with electrical, RF, mechanical, and manufacturing teams and helps ensure designs meet high standards for performance, reliability, and manufacturability. The engineer will own challenging boards, set design best practices, and contribute to scalable processes across product generations. The position includes layout ownership from outline definition and stack-up design through high-density component placement, precision routing, and release to manufacturing. It also involves maintaining design standards, libraries, and workflows; coordinating with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors; and improving tool flows, library management, design reviews, and automation opportunities. Skydio describes compensation for regular, full-time employees as including base salary, stock options, and comprehensive benefits. The stated annual base salary range is $147,500–$210,000. Relocation assistance may be provided for eligible roles. FAA Part 107 certification within the first 60 days is strongly encouraged for all employees and required for certain positions.

  • At least 5 years of hands-on PCB layout experience is preferred, particularly for high-speed, high-density, and mixed-signal systems.
  • Expertise in Cadence Allegro/OrCAD (17.2/25.1) and a proven record of designing and shipping complex boards.
  • Strong grasp of component placement, signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, and impedance control, with practical layout application.
  • Proficiency in rigid, flex, and rigid-flex PCB design for high-performance embedded systems.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, including experience collaborating across electrical, mechanical, RF, and manufacturing teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with scripting or automation in PCB tools.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems.
  • Experience with robotics or drones.
