PCB Designer

Econolite Group•Anaheim, CA
•$115,000 - $125,000

About The Position

Econolite is seeking a PCB Designer to provide engineering support to the Electrical Hardware Engineering Team, primarily by creating PCB layouts from electrical schematics and design requirements. The position works with electrical and mechanical engineers, PCB fabricators, and contract manufacturers to support board design, fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting. The role uses PCB design tools such as Altium Designer and SolidWorks and involves creating layouts for digital, analog, power, and high-speed circuits. The designer generates fabrication and assembly files, maintains PCB libraries, reviews designs for manufacturability and reliability, and supports prototype builds and board bring-up. This is a full-time exempt position with a stated base pay range of $115,000–$125,000 per year, plus benefits. Candidates who accept employment are subject to a background investigation and drug screening; motor vehicle/driving record screening may also apply to applicable roles.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience designing printed circuit boards using tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, KiCad, PADS, or similar.
  • Understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Experience with component placement, trace routing, copper pours, vias, controlled impedance, and design rules.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards for PCBA design.
  • Knowledge of DFM, DFA, and DFT principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and good documentation habits.

Nice To Haves

  • Ten years of experience designing printed circuit boards.
  • Experience using Altium Designer.
  • Experience using SolidWorks.
  • Soldering experience, including 0402 components.

Responsibilities

  • Create PCB layouts from electrical schematics and design requirements using Altium Designer.
  • Place components and route traces for digital, analog, power, and high-speed circuits.
  • Work with electrical engineers to define stackups, impedance requirements, clearance rules, grounding strategy, and routing constraints.
  • Generate PCB fabrication and assembly files, including Gerbers, drill files, pick-and-place files, assembly drawings, and fabrication notes.
  • Maintain PCB libraries, including schematic symbols, footprints, and 3D models.
  • Perform design rule checks and review layouts for manufacturability and reliability.
  • Coordinate with mechanical engineers to verify board outlines, mounting holes, connectors, keepouts, and enclosure constraints; use SolidWorks to validate PCB assemblies against mechanical models.
  • Support prototype builds, board bring-up, and troubleshooting using common lab equipment.
