This position involves providing approved care for assigned patients and assisting in the implementation of interventions under the supervision of an RN. The role includes supervising and assisting patients with activities of daily living and developmentally appropriate activities. The PCA will offer assistance to co-workers after completing their own duties, use crisis control techniques, and assist in de-escalation of patients and visitors. They may also assist with patient transport and 1 on 1 patient observation as needed. Communication is key, demonstrating Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions, reporting patient status changes, and completing timely documentation in the patient medical record. The PCA is expected to seek information and guidance when needed and discuss concerns with the Director or designee. The role also ensures that all areas within the division are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees, complying with Infection Control policies and procedures and adhering to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and development levels. Administrative support includes responding to communication systems/patient alarms with urgency, answering the telephone according to CCHMC etiquette, assembling charts, ordering patient supplies, stocking clerical supplies, and potentially assisting in the orientation and training of new employees.
