Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive payroll experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional Designation through the National Payroll Association.
  • Supervisor experience or have had direct reports.
  • Experience processing payroll in Workday is strongly preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to analyze, reconcile, and work with payroll data.
  • Can read and interpret collective bargaining agreements and determine related payroll requirements.
  • Familiar with payroll legislative requirements in multiple Canadian provinces, with knowledge of Quebec requirements an asset.
  • Can learn and adapt quickly in an unfamiliar environment and are able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Detail oriented and eager to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all day-to-day aspects of the Payroll Department with a primary focus on the salary population and involvement with hourly populations.
  • Assist with running and overseeing the salaried payroll that consists of 3,500 employees.
  • Responsible for overseeing 3 direct reports within salaried payroll and being part of a large payroll team.
  • Responsible for processing leaves of absence, such as maternity and parental leaves, as well as complex terminations.
  • Manage complex payroll for diverse populations, with multiple systems (Workday) and pay cycles / schedules, in most Canadian provinces (including Quebec).
  • Prepare statutory reporting and remittances.
  • Prepare periodic and year-end income tax reporting processes and remittances.
  • Assist with payroll accounting functions, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Respond to inquiries from employees and other stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work in a hands-on role, with significant individual preparation as well as review and oversight over the work of others.
