About The Position

Interfor is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their dynamic Payroll team. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, primarily for Canadian employees in British Columbia, while adhering to labor laws, employee handbooks, and collective bargaining agreements. The position also involves managing data and time across the employee life cycle. The assigned portfolio will be operations in BC, with the possibility of being embedded in a Southern Interior mill location or based at the corporate office in Burnaby, BC. Success in this role requires adaptability, integrity, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a customer-first approach.

Requirements

  • At least two years of full-cycle payroll experience with salaried and hourly employees.
  • Manufacturing experience is an asset.
  • Unionized experience required.
  • Diploma or degree in accounting, payroll, or business administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with payroll and time and attendance systems required.
  • Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now and UKGPro & Workforce Management preferred.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • PCP or CPM certification is an asset but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately manage full-cycle payroll for assigned companies/locations, including audits, reconciliations, and year-end tax forms.
  • Support the collection, validation, and reconciliation of time data, ensuring accuracy and alignment with payroll timelines. Partner with operations to resolve discrepancies and strengthen timekeeping controls.
  • Handle employee life cycle data (hires, terminations, changes, leaves) and ensure seamless payroll integration.
  • Maintain SOPs, payroll tools, and ensure compliance with labour laws and privacy regulations.
  • Apply collective bargaining agreements, employee handbooks, and pay policies in practice, working directly with sites and union environments to resolve issues and ensure payroll reflects actual work performed.
  • Respond to employee pay inquiries and collaborate with HR and Finance to resolve payroll issues.
  • Support payroll system maintenance, identify efficiency opportunities, participate in testing and contribute to system enhancements.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable team environment, sharing knowledge and supporting peers to ensure consistent and accurate payroll delivery.
