About The Position

Frontier-Kemper, a Tutor Perini Company, is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our project office in Evansville, IN. About Frontier-Kemper Excellence in Underground and Heavy Civil Construction At Frontier-Kemper, we specialize in heavy civil construction and underground mine development. Requirements

  • 3+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Experience preparing payroll for union and non-union employees.
  • Understanding of prevailing wage laws, certified payroll reporting, and Davis-Bacon requirements.
  • Understanding of multi-state payroll processing and payroll tax regulations.
  • Willing to adapt to changing processes.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Workday, JD Edwards (E1), or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, and reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, even in fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet strict payroll deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willing to jump in and assist team and department members.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with heavy civil, infrastructure, mining, or commercial construction payroll a plus.
  • Strong in Excel.
  • Understanding of job costing and labor allocation processes.
  • Understanding of Canadian payroll a plus.
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and union reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare weekly payroll for union and non-union employees.
  • Review, verify, and enter employee timecards, job cost allocations, per diem payments, and equipment hours into Excel.
  • Ensure compliance with prevailing wage requirements, certified payroll reporting, and applicable labor regulations as coordinated with supervisor.
  • Maintain employee payroll records, including pay rates.
  • Audit payroll data to identify and resolve discrepancies prior to payroll processing.
  • Prepare certified payroll reports for public works projects.
  • Coordinate payroll-related activities with project managers, field supervisors, HR, and Accounting.
  • Reconcile payroll reports.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, tax forms, and payroll policies.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company payroll regulations as coordinated with supervisor.
  • Scan and organize documents electronically.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee and payroll information.
