Scope of the Position:Reporting to the Payroll and HRIS Director of Canada, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for complete validation of payroll for the Sonepar Canada companies, including payrolls for both salaried and unionized employees, and the administration of the year-end process.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in payroll services and year-end processes, including payroll administration for both salaried and unionized employees
  • Minimum of a college diploma in accounting or administration
  • PCP or similar Payroll Compliance Specialist accreditation
  • Knowledge of applicable Canadian payroll legislation and employment standards, including Quebec labour standards
  • Bilingualism (French/English)
  • Knowledge of SAP and ADP

Responsibilities

  • Carry out complete verification of payroll in its overall process (verification of data each pay period);
  • Validate payroll in accordance with applicable collective agreements, employment standards, company policies, and internal controls;
  • Calculate/Validate/confirm the monthly/quarterly bonus amounts to be paid;
  • Manage and resolve payroll-related issues;
  • Administer the end of fiscal year process (taxable benefits, etc.);
  • Prepare end-of-year statements (R1/T4/T2200) and all other statements related to the end of the fiscal year;
  • Maintain communication and a solid business relationship with the various suppliers;
  • Act as liaison with financial institutions and government authorities, and ensure the remittance of required deductions;
  • Maintenance and adjustment of payroll and time management systems (Perform monthly reconciliation operations, produce monthly reports);
  • Provide payroll-related customer service and support to managers;
  • Carry out various analysis and prepare reports requested in connection with payroll and the time management module;
  • Assist the human resources team in all special projects
