About The Position

Air Canada Vacations is looking for a talented and dedicated Payroll Specialist to join their exciting and continually growing team. This role is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation, administration, and processing of both hourly and salaried bi-weekly payroll. The specialist will oversee audit and control activities for each payroll cycle, including reconciliations and timely submission of all payroll-related statutory filings and payments. They will be responsible for completing a full year payroll cycle, year-end processes, tax forms, and government summaries, as well as reconciling remittances and PIER deficiencies. The role also involves producing payroll, benefits, pension, and other third-party reporting and payment requests, providing necessary payroll reports (e.g., GL, WCB), and ensuring compliance with provincial laws and regulations. Additionally, the Payroll Specialist will provide guidance and information on payroll matters, assist external auditors, and contribute to the review, development, and documentation of payroll policies, procedures, and controls. They will support continuous improvement initiatives by implementing changes to processes and system enhancements, respond to employee payroll inquiries and Service Canada requests, and maintain confidential information according to legal and ethical standards. This is a temporary, full-time position for 12 months.

Requirements

  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • Minimum of 5 years of similar work experience
  • Well versed in Canadian payroll legislation
  • Experience using payroll service providers, such as Dayforce/Ceridian
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and custom reports
  • Strong attention to detail with high level of accuracy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to take proactive initiative in troubleshooting and improving payroll processes
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, multi-tasking priorities
  • Ability to develop productive relationships, willingness to collaborate and support others to complete payroll tasks and requests

Nice To Haves

  • Payroll designations such as Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certifications an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for timely and accurate preparation, administration and processing of both hourly and salaried bi-weekly payroll

  • Able to complete a full year payroll cycle, year-end, tax forms and government summaries
  • Reconcile all remittances and PIER deficiencies
  • Produce payroll, benefits, pension and other third-party reporting and payment requests
  • Provide payroll reporting as needed, such GL, WCB, etc
  • Ensure compliance with provincial laws and regulations
  • Provide guidance and information on payroll matters
  • Provide assistance to external auditors during interim and annual audits of corporate payroll records
  • Assists in the review, development and documentation of payroll policies, procedures and controls
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, implementing changes to processes and system enhancements.
  • Respond to employee payroll enquiries and Service Canada
  • Maintaining confidential information by adhering to legal and ethical standards
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
