About The Position

SpryPoint is a rapidly growing software company that is modernizing how utilities serve their communities. We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist for a 4-month contract role, with the potential for extension, starting in early July. This role reports to the Director of Finance and is crucial for maintaining smooth payroll operations across both the United States and Canada. The ideal candidate will have experience with multi-jurisdictional payroll and cross-border compliance. This position offers high visibility within the Finance and executive leadership teams and provides an opportunity to work with an evolving Finance tech stack including BambooHR and PayEvo within a collaborative, people-first culture.

Requirements

  • Must be based in the Atlanta, Georgia area (fully remote role, but local candidates only).
  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field.
  • 2-5 years of payroll experience with hands-on processing in both the US and Canada.
  • Solid familiarity with benefits administration, including retirement plans in both the US and Canada.
  • Deep knowledge of payroll systems and multi-jurisdictional compliance.
  • Experience with payroll and HRIS systems.
  • Obsessive attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive data with care.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate comfortably at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to handle pressure, juggle competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing circumstances.

  • CPP designation.
  • Experience with BambooHR and PayEvo.

Responsibilities

  • Own timely and accurate payroll processing across the US and Canada for every cycle.
  • Stay updated on federal, state, provincial, and local payroll regulations in both countries and inform leadership of any relevant changes.
  • Process and distribute employee payments, manage payroll preparation, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare payroll reports covering earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
  • Research and resolve employment tax inquiries and discrepancies, and establish tax profiles with relevant jurisdictions.
  • Handle sensitive payroll information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Identify opportunities for streamlining, automation, and process improvement.
  • Collaborate on special projects and generate ad hoc reports for internal stakeholders and leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll-related legal requirements, including tax filings and regulatory reporting.
  • Set up and enroll new hires in benefit plans across the US and Canada, including 401(k) and RRSP retirement programs.
  • Keep employee benefit accounts up-to-date, managing changes and life events.
  • Serve as the primary resource for benefits-related questions, assisting employees in understanding their plans and resolving issues.
