About The Position

DSG is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team! As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees. This position maintains payroll records, reviews and audits payroll data, resolves payroll-related questions, and supports payroll tax, garnishment, benefit deduction, unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation, and year-end reporting processes. The role partners closely with Human Resources, Finance, managers, and employees to ensure payroll information is complete, confidential, and processed in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements. Requirements

  • 2–4 years of payroll processing experience required; multi-state payroll experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices, wage and hour requirements, payroll taxes, garnishments, deductions, and applicable compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting; experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll/HRIS systems preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to review, reconcile, and validate payroll information accurately.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet recurring payroll deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to respond to payroll questions clearly and professionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent payroll experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and confidentiality.
  • Review and audit payroll data, including hours worked, paid time off, earnings, deductions, tax setup, direct deposit information, and employee status changes prior to payroll processing.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and support payroll data integrity within the payroll and HRIS systems.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including wage and hour requirements, garnishments, tax filings, and required reporting.
  • Research and resolve payroll-related questions from employees and managers in a timely, professional, and service-focused manner.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources, Finance, benefits, and managers to ensure payroll changes, deductions, and adjustments are complete and accurately processed.
  • Support quarterly and year-end payroll processes, including W-2 preparation, payroll reconciliations, audits, and reporting.
  • Support the Payroll Specialist with unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation accounts, payroll reporting, process documentation, and other payroll-related projects.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain recurring payroll reports to support payroll processing, audits, reconciliations, and management requests.
  • Assist with payroll system updates, employee payroll data maintenance, and testing related to system changes or process improvements.
  • Identify payroll data discrepancies, trends, or process issues and escalate or recommend improvements as appropriate.
  • Maintain payroll procedures, checklists, and documentation to support consistent and compliant payroll operations.
  • Partner with internal teams to support payroll-related projects, reporting needs, audits, and process improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
