About The Position

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for a multi-state workforce. This role performs payroll audits, reviews timekeeping records, reconciles payroll data, administers garnishments, and assists with payroll tax and year-end activities. The Payroll Specialist partners closely with Human Resources, Finance, managers, and employees to ensure payroll accuracy, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience; multi-state payroll experience preferred.
  • Experience with payroll systems and reporting tools; Workday experience preferred.
  • Experience reviewing timekeeping records, payroll audits, and payroll reconciliation processes.
  • Knowledge of weekly and bi-weekly payroll processing practices.
  • Working knowledge of garnishments, child support orders, federal and state levies, and wage attachments.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax regulations, filings, and reconciliation processes.
  • Basic knowledge of union agreements and payroll administration.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll transactions accurately and timely for all employees.
  • Review employee time sheets and audit timekeeping records to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Generate, review, and analyze payroll-related reports in Workday.
  • Audit payroll transactions and payroll processes to identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support the processing and validation of weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles.
  • Partner with Human Resources on payroll-related activities, including leave administration, benefits processing, and time-tracking audits.
  • Manage wage attachments and garnishments, including child support orders, tax levies, agency correspondence, system setup, payment processing, and employee communications.
  • Monitor and respond to payroll inbox inquiries, providing timely and professional support to employees and managers.
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation, reconciliations, audits, and regulatory reporting.
  • Reconcile payroll taxes and assist with payroll tax filings and related audits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and company policies.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, managers, and business partners.
  • Assist with State Agency tax notices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
