About The Position

The Payroll Shared Services Specialist, under the direction of the Payroll Shared Services Program Manager, provides day-to-day payroll support for participating and assigned units at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, School of Medicine. Functions of the Payroll Specialist include monthly and bi-weekly payroll processing for all university employee groups, hospital payment entries, funding distribution and allocation Updates, and FAMLI/FMLA coordination and entry. In addition, the Payroll Shared Services Specialist provides guidance and interpretation of Federal, State, University, and School of Medicine laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, assuring compliance in a variety of payroll areas.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • One (1) year of experience performing Human Resources functions with an emphasis on payroll functions.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with people from all levels within an organization.

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Process monthly payroll for all university employment groups.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for participating university employment groups.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of wages earned.
  • Verify timekeeping records and resolve discrepancies.
  • Accurately enter hospital payments (UPI & UOC) for affected faculty
  • Accurately enter and update funding and allocations for all university employment groups.
  • Coordinate, enter, and track FAMLI and FMLA in conjunction with the CU Leave Office.
  • Process off-cycle payroll, terminations, and final checks when necessary.
  • Address employee payroll inquiries regarding paychecks, deductions, and tax withholdings.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Provide guidance on direct deposit setup and payroll self-service portals.
  • Enter and update employee payroll data in payroll software or HRIS systems.
  • Work closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy.
  • Assist with payroll system upgrades and process improvements.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, laws, and regulations and provide updates and training to the Payroll Shared Services team as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete records ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and University laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as a resource on HR policies and procedures.
  • Support departments as needed and/or in the absence of Payroll Specialists.
  • Perform other duties, tasks, and projects assigned.
