Performs a variety of duties pertaining to the preparation and adjustment phases of a complex integrated payroll system. Responds to inquiries from employees which may require conducting research and/or contacting other offices for information. This position is represented by the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers Union (PFT). If the successful candidate is new to PFT the starting salary will be $36,086 with annual increases per the PFT contract.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of full-time, paid computerized payroll processing experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard payroll regulations, practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computerized payroll processing activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle difficult situations in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn to interpret and apply contractual provisions as related to payroll operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn EXCEL and prepare spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Examines records, transactions, and other related documents to obtain information.
  • Reviews and analyzes problems.
  • Notifies all concerned and involved parties of findings and solutions.
  • Provides assistance to employees with respect to payroll related problems.
  • When necessary, refers problems to appropriate District personnel for resolution; follows-up with staff in other offices to ensure that customer complaints are handled in a timely manner and to the satisfaction of the complainant.
  • Provides assistance to lower level processing clerks.
