About The Position

The Squires Group is seeking a Payroll Functional Lead for a large-scale Workday Payroll implementation for a major metropolitan government organization. The project is in its early phases, giving you real influence over solution design, process decisions, and long-term success. You’ll work alongside a seasoned consulting team while helping modernize payroll operations that impact thousands of employees and the communities they serve. The work is primarily remote, with 30%-50% travel to the Pacific Northwest. Per our client contract, candidates must be US Citizens or Green Card Holders.

Requirements

  • Strong Workday Payroll implementation experience (public sector experience is a plus)
  • Proven ability to lead functional design and client-facing discussions
  • Experience supporting go-lives and post‑production stabilization
  • Willingness to travel up to 30–50%
  • US Citizens or Green Card Holders

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Payroll Functional Lead for a full Workday platform implementation
  • Lead payroll design sessions, configuration decisions, and validations
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and technical teams to ensure seamless payroll processing
  • Own end-to-end payroll lifecycle activities including testing, parallel runs, and go-live readiness
  • Provide functional leadership and mentorship across the project team
