About The Position

The Payroll Director will lead the organization’s Payroll Department to deliver payroll for both the United States and Canada. You'll ensure compliance and consistent application of federal, state, and local laws. The position will also lead strategic project management for company acquisitions and technology integrations as it relates to payroll. In addition, you'll collaborate with Human Resources and Business Leaders to resolve pay (and related) issues impacting our employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of progressive Payroll experience, with 3–5 years of hands‑on experience with Workday.
  • Proven history of people leadership in a payroll or related function.
  • Experience handling diverse pay types, including hourly, salaried, commissions, bonuses, and equity/stock-based compensation.
  • Broad knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll and time reporting, including payroll systems, processes, regulations, and policies.
  • Payroll experience in a multi-location organization, operating in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Excellent working knowledge and understanding of Federal/State tax filing regulations and other payroll legislation.
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize projects in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented business environment.
  • Strong customer service disposition and professionalism.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the payroll function, with a focus on long‑term planning, scalability, and process improvement.
  • Lead project management and end‑to‑end ownership of payroll‑related initiatives, including company acquisitions and technology integrations.
  • Oversee payroll compliance activities, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all payroll operations, including audits, internal controls, reconciliations, and required reporting.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with Human Resources and cross‑functional stakeholders to align payroll processes with broader organizational goals.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop payroll team members, fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Manage external vendor relationships to ensure service levels are met.
