About The Position

As an experienced payroll leader, you know that great payroll is about more than precision and compliance—it’s about creating confidence for the people behind every paycheck. At myHR Partner, you’ll lead a team that takes that responsibility seriously, all while working remotely! As our Payroll Department Head, you will own the strategy, performance, and day-to-day operations of our payroll service line. Reporting to our Chief of HR Operations, you’ll lead a talented payroll team, oversee end-to-end payroll delivery for our client portfolio, and be the subject matter expert our clients and internal partners rely on for guidance, escalations, and continuous improvement. This is a fresh-start leadership opportunity. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, Accounting, or a related field preferred
  • 7+ years of payroll experience, including multi-state and multi-client (or multi-entity) environments, with a strong grasp of wage and tax laws and payroll auditing
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing payroll teams—building both performance and a strong, people-first culture
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems and a comfort evaluating, implementing, and optimizing tools, including the smart use of AI and automation to improve accuracy and scale
  • A high degree of trustworthiness, with a commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, compliance, and sound judgment in everything you touch
  • Collaborative leadership skills, and ease working closely with executives, sales, and cross-functional partners to guide decisions and strengthen client outcomes
  • Adaptability in a dynamic, growing organization, where processes evolve and continuous improvement is part of the culture—supported by the EOS operating framework
  • Based in Eastern or Central Time Zone to align with our team’s collaborative rhythm

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the payroll team—through regular 1:1s, feedback, and career growth conversations—so each team member can do their best work and grow with the company
  • Oversee end-to-end multi-client, multi-state payroll processing—ensuring accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and SLA adherence across our client portfolio
  • Serve as the escalation point and subject matter expert for complex payroll issues, wage and tax law questions, and year-end processing
  • Own quality and compliance, executing QC processes, analyzing trends and root causes, and implementing corrective actions
  • Manage capacity, workload, and utilization, balancing staffing levels with service quality, productivity, and margin goals
  • Drive continuous improvement, leveraging AI, automation, and technology to improve payroll efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and client experience
  • Partner with leadership, sales, and clients—supporting onboarding, service scoping, client check-ins, and proactive consulting that strengthens relationships and uncovers opportunities
