Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 5+ years of progressive payroll experience
  • Extensive experience with multi-state payroll, compliance, and complex payroll environments
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and decision-making capabilities
  • Advanced payroll compliance and regulatory knowledge
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills
  • Ability to lead without direct managerial authority
  • High level of accountability, discretion, and professionalism

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Stay informed of legislative changes affecting payroll, taxation, wage and hour laws, and garnishments with the help of Paycom.
  • Research payroll compliance issues and provide recommendations to management.
  • Assist with the implementation of new payroll compliance requirements and policy updates.
  • Review payroll tax setups, work locations, labor allocations, and earnings configurations for compliance.
  • Perform ongoing audits of payroll data, earnings, deductions, taxes, direct deposits, and employee records.
  • Conduct pre-payroll and post-payroll audits to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Review payroll changes including pay rates, job changes, tax updates, deductions, garnishments, and benefit elections.
  • Audit timekeeping data, labor allocations, project costing, and employee classifications.
  • Identify trends, recurring errors, and process gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure payroll corrections are properly documented and approved.
  • Develop audit procedures and controls to improve payroll accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain payroll compliance and audit reports.
  • Analyze payroll trends and identify areas of risk or process improvement.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual payroll reconciliations.
  • Support W-2, W-2C, tax filing, and year-end audit activities.
  • Create and maintain payroll metrics and compliance dashboards.
  • Evaluate payroll procedures and recommend improvements to strengthen internal controls.
  • Assist in developing and documenting payroll policies, procedures, and standard operating practices.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, Tax, and Operations teams to improve payroll processes.
  • Participate in payroll system implementations, upgrades, and testing.
  • Serve as a resource for Payroll Specialists and other payroll team members regarding compliance and audit-related questions.
  • Assist with payroll processing during peak periods, employee absences, and critical payroll deadlines.
  • Provide training and guidance on payroll best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Support payroll corrections, off-cycle payrolls, and special projects as needed.
  • Collaborate with the payroll team to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees.
