About The Position

The Payroll Clerk supports accurate and timely weekly payroll processing for a large, multi-state employee population. This role verifies timecard data, maintains payroll records, and collaborates closely with HR and team members to ensure payroll integrity and compliance. The position offers the opportunity to build strong payroll and accounting skills in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • 1 + years of experience in payroll, accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or administrative roles (experience will be valued over formal degrees).
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions.
  • Ability to work with weekly payroll cycles and manage recurring deadlines.
  • Comfort working with payroll systems such as ADP or similar platforms (ADP-specific experience is not required).
  • Strong data entry skills with a focus on accuracy and consistency.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact professionally with employees, managers, and HR.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team and contribute to a positive team culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting payroll for a large employee population (1,500+ employees) is beneficial.
  • Exposure to multi-state payroll environments is a plus, though not required.
  • Prior experience reconciling financial or payroll reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Personable, team-oriented approach, with an interest in building positive relationships with colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with processing weekly payroll for more than 1,500 employees in a multi-state environment.
  • Verify the accuracy of employee timecards in ADP and promptly communicate any issues or discrepancies to employees and managers.
  • Monitor and maintain the payroll department email inbox, ensuring all inquiries receive timely, professional responses.
  • Reconcile payroll reports and identify discrepancies prior to payroll processing to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with the HR department to ensure employee data is accurate, up to date, and properly reflected in payroll.
  • Maintain all payroll records and organize backup documentation in shared drives for easy access and audit readiness.
  • Participate in company meetings, webinars, and conference calls to stay informed on process changes and business updates.
  • Support other duties and special projects as assigned in response to changing business conditions or departmental needs.
