About The Position

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering payroll and benefits for all Canadian employees (350+). The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can take accountability and is driven by continuous growth and development. The ideal candidate will have previous payroll administration experience (Canada) with exposure and working knowledge with UKG (Kronos). Requirements

  • Post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in Human Resources, Business or related area
  • Minimum five years job-related experience, preferably in an environment that supported Western Canada
  • Familiarity with local, provincial, and federal laws as they pertain to Human Resources/Payroll
  • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software applications
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, and written communication skills
  • Excellent telephone and oral communication skills
  • A high performer with ability to work within deadlines with a high attention to detail
  • Effective customer service skills both in person and over the phone to employees, participants and other internal/external stakeholders as required
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and changing work environment
  • Ambitious with the desire to continuously learn and the ability to adapt to a dynamic growing organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to build relationships with peers in remote locations
  • Must be a team player and work well with people at all levels within the company

Nice To Haves

  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) Certificate or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) (completed or in progress) considered an asset
  • Experience in UKG (Kronos) and the impact of stock based compensation on payroll considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Processes payroll for Canadian salaried and hourly employees
  • Implements, maintains and reviews payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, taxes, and other deductions for payroll
  • Investigates, reviews and recommends enhancements for process changes
  • Manages employee administration for all benefits transactions including health & dental, HSA, etc.
  • Manages and administers all employee leaves related but not limited to disability (STD & LTD), WCB & SUB
  • Ensures compliance with federal, provincial and local payroll, wage, and hour laws, employment standards and best practices
  • Contributes to the accuracy and integrity of the payroll function within the company and responds to employee and department enquiries as they relate to payroll
  • Manages internal and external audit requests
  • Processes year end reconciliation including balancing T4s and issuing electronically to the CRA
  • Maintains electronic personnel files in compliance with applicable legal requirements
  • Prepares appropriate reports/billings on an ongoing basis
  • Works with HR team to identify gaps in internal processes, procedures and documentation and make recommendations to assist with process improvement
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned
