About The Position

The Payroll Assistant in the Transportation Department is responsible for reviewing, correcting, and maintaining ancillary payroll records using an automated timekeeping system. This role involves processing leave requests, maintaining accurate payroll files, preparing bi-weekly payroll adjustment reports, and inputting schedules into the timekeeping system. The assistant will also aid in the confirmation and compensation of incentive programs, handle payroll inquiries from internal and external sources regarding hourly employees, and answer questions about employee leave balances. Additionally, the position requires supporting the department/district with regular and reliable attendance, adhering to district/department policies, and performing other duties as assigned by the department director or designee. Regular and reliable attendance is considered an essential job function.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computer, Microsoft Office applications, e-mail, internet and departmental specific applications, etc.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse internal and external publics.
  • Ability to speak, read and understand the English language.
  • Competency in CFISD proficiency test (score 80 or above).

Nice To Haves

  • Competency in basic accounting with a minimum three (3) years experience in payroll functions preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review, correct and maintain ancillary payroll records using an automated timekeeping system.
  • Process leave (sick, personal and vacation) requests and transfer to period totals report.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date payroll files.
  • Preparation of payroll adjustment report bi-weekly.
  • Input schedules to automated timekeeping system.
  • Aid in the confirmation and compensation of all incentive programs.
  • Answer external and internal payroll inquiries concerning hourly employees.
  • Answer inquiries concerning employee leave balances.
  • Support the department/district with regular and reliable attendance.
  • Follow district/department policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by department director or designee.
