Payroll and HRIS Analyst Intern

About The Position

Life Alive Organic Cafe is seeking a dynamic and analytical Payroll and HRIS Intern to join their team for a high-impact learning experience. The intern will gain hands-on experience processing bi-weekly payroll and managing the UKG HRIS, while developing technical skills in data analysis and system maintenance. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn the end-to-end payroll process, build custom BI reports, utilize SQL for data extraction, design data dashboards, troubleshoot payroll issues, and assist in maintaining HRIS data integrity. The internship also includes ad hoc project assignments. Learning outcomes include hands-on payroll lifecycle experience, HRIS and data expertise with UKG, SQL, and BI tools, cross-functional collaboration understanding between People operations and Finance, and professional development through mentorship and exposure to HR compliance and data storytelling.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field.
  • Strong interest in numbers, root cause analysis, and tax work.
  • A strong work ethic, including the ability to act with discretion and treat all sensitive information as confidential.
  • Ability to analyze data and synthesize research into a polished, completed product.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with a Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
  • Demonstrated professionalism and integrity in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in SQL and data querying techniques.
  • Experience or strong interest in Business Intelligence (BI) tools, automation scripts and report building.
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP).

Responsibilities

  • Learn the end-to-end bi-weekly payroll process and take ownership of it.
  • Build custom BI reports, utilize SQL for data extraction, and design data dashboards to support HR and Finance decision-making.
  • Troubleshoot payroll issues in close collaboration with the People and Finance department.
  • Assist in maintaining the UKG HRIS system data integrity.
  • Ad hoc project assignments as time allows.
