About The Position

AnswerFirst is expanding its Accounting team and seeking a skilled Payroll and Accounting Specialist. This role reports to the CFO and will assist with various payroll and accounting tasks, as well as Human Resources and corporate culture initiatives. The specialist will be responsible for payroll processing, benefit administration, updating payroll portals, developing employee benefit awareness programs, assisting with corporate culture enhancement, researching tax issues, maintaining department documents, attending industry seminars, and assisting with HR and Accounting projects.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in payroll processing and accounts payable functions, or a combined 1 year of work-related experience paired with a degree in Accounting.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processing.
  • Strong understanding of benefit administration.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team in a Zoom environment.

  • Maintain a regular M-F, 40-hour work week between the hours of 8 AM - 6 PM ET.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Must reside in Alaska, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, or Wyoming.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a regular 40-hour work week between Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 6 PM.
  • Assist with payroll processing, including submitting payroll to PEO/payroll vendor, answering employee inquiries, maintaining PTO tracking, tracking raises and/or cumulative hours for CSPs, maintaining Full-Time status for ACA and benefits, managing annual benefit renewals, and tracking CSP login time and minutes talked.
  • Update and enhance the payroll and/or PEO portal.
  • Develop a program to ensure employees are aware of available benefits, including working with the PEO/payroll provider, exploring additional benefits, and evaluating benefits for annual renewals.
  • Assist HR and Culture Specialist with enhancing and developing corporate culture, including exploring social events, recognition programs, charity participation, and overall health/life/work enhancement, and working with the culture committee.
  • Research and document tax issues relating to state Nexus and other potential sales and/or income tax issues associated with hiring employees in other states.
  • Assist with the creation and upkeep of all department documents, including Employee Handbooks, Operations manuals, policy and procedure documents, and KB articles.
  • Attend Human Resource and Culture seminars to research current trends.
  • Assist with the rollout and implementation of HR and Accounting projects approved by the HR Manager and CFO, including assisting with document creation/upkeep and implementation of retention directives, standards, and communications.
  • Maintain company, industry, and working knowledge of essential functions performed by the team.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and career development opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a network of industry contacts via LinkedIn, NAEO, ATSI, and other resources.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.
