About The Position

This position is primarily responsible for assisting in bi-weekly payroll processing for a multi-state organization including review of timecards, wage garnishments, setting up new hires, terminations, leaves of absence, tax changes, healthcare deductions, 401(k) deductions, VOE’s and other non-recurring pay items including responding to employee related inquiries. This is a contract/temp role for approximately 3 months.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or other relevant discipline or equivalent combination of and applicable job experience preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in payroll processing; preferably in a mid-size multi-state organization, including familiarity with identifying and applying state-specific payroll requirements.
  • Outsourced payroll service experience with Workday (specifically with time cards, absence, Workday Help, and off cycle payments).
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite with intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, SUMIF, and pivot tables.
  • Skilled at clearly conveying payroll knowledge to all levels within, and outside of, the organization.
  • Skilled at creating a cooperative team environment.
  • Organized with high attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in processing bi-weekly payroll for approximately 2300 employees in a multi-state environment using Workday.
  • Manage Payroll Inbox and Workday Help.
  • Protects the company and its employees by always maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  • Provides a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Audit payroll before and after it is submitted by pulling reports and using formulas to reconcile data.
  • Review time cards for hourly employees to make sure there are no errors.
  • Prepare final and manual checks for employees as needed.
  • Accurately updates, uploads, and maintains employee records according to submitted action forms.
  • Understands company policies on meal premiums, coefficient overtime, PTO, 401k, and health plans, as well as government regulations, garnishments, and tax withholding guidelines to assist internal customers.
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Accurately and efficiently process all Verification of Employment paperwork for employees.
  • Monitor incoming payroll emails and either provide answers to payroll-related questions or forward emails to appropriate employee/department for response.
  • Assists in implementing, writing, and maintaining standard operating procedures for the payroll department.
  • Ensures company compliance with federal and state payroll regulations.
  • Exhibits strong communication skills; is resourceful and self-motivated.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
