About The Position

Our Accounting group is currently looking to add a Payroll Administrator to the team, based out of our Calgary office on a 6-month term (with potential to extend). Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, this position provides in-house processing of multi-provincial payroll within a fast-paced oilfield construction environment while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with company policies and applicable legislation. The successful candidate needs to be able to effectively manage competing priorities, be willing to support the team beyond regular payroll duties when required as well as be dependable, adaptable, and capable of working independently while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Previous payroll experience, ideally within the construction or oilfield industry
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and CRA requirements, with emphasis on Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan
  • Working knowledge of WCB requirements for subcontractors within Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, including interprovincial coverage and clearance requirements
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions.

Nice To Haves

  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Professional) designation
  • Experience processing subcontractor payroll
  • Post-Secondary education in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Complete in-house processing of bi-weekly payroll for hourly employees and subcontractors
  • Maintain employee payroll records and related documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness, including processing new hires, rehires, employee changes, and terminations
  • Interpret and apply government legislation, primarily for Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, to ensure compliance with payroll, deductions, benefits, taxation, and documentation requirements
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately and within required deadlines in a high-volume environment
  • Prepare ROEs, T4s, payroll reconciliations, and government remittances
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a professional and timely manner
  • Coordinate with HR, accounting, and operations teams regarding various inquiries
  • Assist with audits, reporting, and administrative duties as required
  • Create, maintain, and manage spreadsheets and customized reports
  • Provide support to other departments and assist with additional duties outside of regular responsibilities when needed
