Payroll Administration Manager

AbCelleraVancouver, BC
CA$90,000 - CA$112,000

About The Position

Each of us cares about someone who will need medicines. That’s why our vision is to repeatedly beat the odds to deliver breakthrough medicines to patients that need them. We pursue truth and scientific rigour and have the courage to work at the edge of the unknown. We're looking for a sharp, detail-oriented payroll professional who takes real pride in getting it right. As our Payroll Administration Manager, you'll own a multi-jurisdictional payroll and equity function spanning Canada, the US, and Australia - bringing precision and care to every cycle, every filing, and every AbCellerite question that lands in your inbox. If you thrive on accuracy and believe that great compensation operations are the backbone of a great employee experience, we'd love to meet you.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of payroll experience, including at least a few years in a senior or lead capacity
  • Managed end-to-end payroll across multiple jurisdictions - Canadian experience is essential, and familiarity with U.S. and/or Australian payroll is a strong asset
  • Experience supporting equity compensation programs and understand how equity events intersect with payroll
  • Known for providing an exceptional employee experience when it comes to pay and equity questions - you respond with care, clarity, and patience, and you understand that for most people, these conversations really matter
  • Comfortable with cross-border arrangements, including shadow payroll and the tax and compliance considerations that come with them
  • Deep hands-on experience with payroll, HRIS, and equity systems (including ADP, Bamboo, and Shareworks), and you naturally look for ways to improve how these platforms are configured, integrated, and used
  • Handled multi-jurisdictional payroll tax filings and reconciliations, including year-end reporting (T4s, W2s, and equivalents)
  • A strong collaborator who can work across Finance, Accounting, Legal, and People teams, and communicate pay data clearly to different audiences
  • A high degree of accuracy and discretion to your work, and you're comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-moving environment

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and approving bi-monthly payroll cycles across Canada, the U.S., and Australia, including off-cycle runs for RSU vesting events
  • Preparing, filing, and reconciling payroll tax payments and GL accounts across all regions, including quarterly and annual reconciliations (T4s, W2s, EHT, WCB, CPP, EI, state taxes)
  • Maintaining shadow payrolls for cross-border arrangements and managing relationships with tax and payroll consultants
  • Preparing payroll journal entries and supporting accounting close, payroll accruals, and FP&A variance analysis
  • Preparing time and cost reporting in compliance with government grants and contract requirements
  • Supporting day-to-day equity administration including new issuances, vesting events, employee updates, and participant transactions across stock options, RSUs, and the employee share purchase plan
  • Monitoring equity events and managing related payroll tax reporting
  • Responding to employee questions on equity compensation and providing scheduled and ad hoc reporting to People & Culture, Finance, Payroll, and Legal
  • Collaborating with People & Culture to accurately administer employee and pay data changes, and facilitating information flow between salary and equity programs
  • Providing accurate pay data to stakeholders across Finance, Accounting, and FP&A

  • Annual bonus dependent on team and company performance
  • 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution
  • CAD $1,500 annual Active Lifestyle Allowance
