About The Position

The Payroll Accountant will have the ability to perform the essential functions of processing the bi-weekly payroll. Skillful in responding to management & employee requests for payroll information. Preparation of salary analysis as required.

Requirements

  • Proficient in operating the Star Payroll System and Kronos.
  • Superior Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of Access Database.
  • Accountant experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of processing the bi-weekly payroll.
  • Skillful in responding to management & employee requests for payroll information.
  • Ability to prepare salary analysis as required.
  • Ability to respond to employee phone calls on issues other than regular corrections.
  • Ability to document policies and procedures for responsibilities as assigned.
  • Ability to develop software skills needed to back up other payroll staff.
  • Ability to make journal entries in HEFM general ledger as required.
  • Ability to perform account reconciliations and analysis as needed.
  • Ability to make timely tax payments and tax filings in accordance with taxing authority regulations.
  • Ability to handle the Upload/Download function of (Pay types, deductions, check stubs).
  • Ability to troubleshoot software and printing problems that occur during payroll processing.
  • Ability to prepare salary analysis as requested by departments and for regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Ability to prepare monthly bank reconciliation and handle escheat responsibilities.
  • Ability to enter manual, void, and adjustment payroll checks into Star System as needed.
  • Ability to voucher payroll deductions for all entities and other deductions as needed.
  • Ability to reconcile taxable wages & taxes withheld by entity.
  • Ability to print payroll checks.
  • Ability to complete employee earnings information requests from banks, insurance companies, legal firms, regulatory agencies, etc.
  • Ability to prepare and file Quarterly payroll tax vouchers and reports.
  • Ability to maintain changes in department locations for local tax reporting and correspond with townships for new office locations.
  • Ability to assist Payroll Manager in responding to compliance issues arising from cycle audits of time schedules and other areas.
  • Sitting up to 7 hours per day, three hours at a time.
  • Continuously uses fingers and hands for typing, data entry, etc.
  • Uses upper extremities to frequently lift up to 30 pounds, operate various office machines, and filing.
  • Frequently stoops, bends, kneels, and reaches above shoulder level to retrieve files.
  • Hearing as it relates to normal conversation.
  • Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Visual monotony when reading reports and viewing computer screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting Strongly Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciliation of taxable wages & taxes withheld by entity.
