About The Position

The incumbent assists with the day-to-day operation of the payroll staff at the Territorial Headquarters of The Salvation Army and in providing support related to payroll programs for The Salvation Army divisions, units, and ministries.

Requirements

  • Completion of a three-year college diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum two (2) years of full-cycle payroll experience, including exposure to a unionized environment operating across Canada.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll processes, HR systems, and key business practices within an integrated, cross-functional environment.
  • Experience supporting payroll-related system implementations, upgrades, or process enhancements.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems and PC-based applications, including the ability to manage and analyze payroll data accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to respond effectively to employee and stakeholder inquiries.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality customer service and building positive working relationships.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills in a fast-paced payroll environment.
  • Ability to support and uphold The Salvation Army’s mission, values, and health and safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll operations and reporting processes, ensuring the accurate and timely distribution of payroll documents, records, and related reporting outputs.
  • Manage employee and officer payroll deductions, including union dues, garnishments, charitable contributions, and other statutory or voluntary deductions.
  • Coordinate the timely reconciliation, remittance, and disbursement of payroll deductions to external agencies, vendors, unions, and charitable organizations.
  • Provide payroll support and guidance by responding to and resolving inquiries from employees, officers, pensioners, ministry units, and divisional stakeholders.
  • Support year-end payroll activities, reporting requirements, and compliance processes to ensure accurate financial and regulatory submissions.
  • Prepare payroll-related financial information, analyses, and reports to support organizational reporting and decision-making.
  • Generate payroll, salary, and budget worksheets to assist with workforce planning, financial management, and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain payroll documentation and records to support internal, external, and regulatory audit activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of salary disclosures, annual financial statement information, and other payroll accounting deliverables.
  • Lead and support special projects, process improvements, and other payroll-related initiatives while performing additional duties as assigned.
