Payment Anomaly Detection Business Analyst - Officer

State Street•Quincy, MA
•$65,000 - $113,750•Onsite

About The Position

We are looking for a detail-oriented payments analyst to support the implementation and subsequent Business As Usual (BAU) operations of the payment anomaly detection capability. The role will perform hands-on business analysis, rule validation, test execution, process documentation, and operational readiness. After go-live, the role will transition into day-to-day operations, focusing on rule performance, exception, and control support. This role is crucial for ensuring the anomaly detection capability accurately identifies unusual payments without introducing processing delays or additional approval, audit, or client-communication activities, making it accurate, usable, and operationally sustainable. It is an opportunity to contribute to our Payments Business Risk and Resiliency Programs.

Requirements

  • Payments operations or payments-control experience with strong analytical and documentation skills.
  • Ability to interpret payment data, process flows, business rules, and test results.
  • Disciplined approach to testing, evidence capture, issue management, and operational procedures.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, finance, data, technology or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant financial services experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Awareness of SWIFT or ISO 20022 messages, payment rails, cut-offs, screening or fraud controls is beneficial.
  • Experience in business analysis, testing, payments operations, fraud or screening is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Document business requirements, user stories, process maps, decision tables, and acceptance criteria under the direction of the workstream lead.
  • Develop and maintain detailed rule definitions, thresholds, tolerances, reason codes, expected outcomes, and test cases.
  • Analyze sample and historical payment data to validate rule logic, identify data-quality issues, and assess expected alert volumes and false-positive patterns.
  • Execute functional, integration, regression, and user acceptance tests across screening, decisioning, case management, UI, reporting, and audit functions.
  • Capture defects with reproducible evidence, support prioritization, and retest corrected functionality.
  • Validate queue prioritization, time-to-cut-off logic, risk tiers, alert grouping, case statuses, client-contact information, templated communications, and implementing Agentic AI.
  • Prepare standard operating procedures, quick-reference guides, training materials, and operational playbooks for go-live.
  • Support production-readiness activities, access testing, maker-checker controls, audit evidence, and cutover planning.
  • After go-live, monitor alerts, rule outcomes, false positives, exceptions, service levels, and data issues; prepare analysis for tuning and governance.
  • Align anomaly detection and cyber-response processes so suspicious or incorrect payment activity is triaged effectively during resilience events.
  • Support high-volume events and post-event reviews, ensuring decisions, approvals, and evidence are captured.
