The Payload Assembly Technician position is primarily responsible for the assembly of spaceflight payloads. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, gathering and preparing components for assembly according to Bill of Materials and cleaning requirements, assembling components according to Build Procedures, and performing quality checks throughout and after the assembly to ensuring proper function of the assembly. The role requires working in controlled manufacturing and laboratory environments, and training will be provided for candidates with strong technical aptitude and a willingness to learn.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant hands-on experience
  • Hands on manual assembly and/or testing experience with small mechanical and electrical components
  • Practical laboratory experience (academic, industry, or research lab)
  • Familiarity with sterile techniques and basic lab practices
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Focus on quality
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment that includes working with changing needs and requirements
  • Ability to own technical assignment and work with supervisor to determine the urgency of a given task
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated for self, functional team, and company success
  • Willingness to learn new skills and techniques from both external and internal sources

Responsibilities

  • Clean, sterilize, and prepare hardware components for spaceflight following defined protocols
  • Support pre-flight hardware processing and post-use cleaning
  • Maintain documentation related to hardware handling and cleanliness
  • Perform quality inspections of components
  • Perform basic sterility testing on components/assemblies
  • Prepare cleaning solutions according to SOPs
  • Follow established SOPs for sterile techniques and biological safety
  • Assist with component manufacturing processes
  • Maintain an organized, clean laboratory and workspace
  • Work in collaboration as part of a greater manufacturing and assembly team to ensure the highest quality output on schedule
  • Work closely with engineers and scientists to provide feedback on component and assembly processes
  • Other duties as assigned
