About The Position

This position involves supervising and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in paving operations. The Foreman will oversee the progress and efficient utilization of the paving crew and equipment, establish and maintain working relationships with fellow Foremen and Superintendents, and ensure proper equipment maintenance. Responsibilities include monitoring the layout, placement, and compaction of materials, ensuring quality control, and verifying measurements, slope, and thickness for compliance. The role requires effective communication with external parties, including customers and the public, and the ability to read and relay job-related information from work orders, plans, or contracts to the asphalt crew. The Foreman will also operate paving equipment, facilitate machinery alignment, calculate and order job materials, and maintain timely and regular attendance. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years or more of proven paving and foreman experience.
  • Supervisory and strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work both day and night shifts if necessary.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions for extended periods of time, including nights and weekends as needed.
  • Knowledge of asphalt paving construction, material, repair, and maintenance procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and best construction practices.
  • Knowledge of the operation of heavy highway construction and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, engineering drawings, and blueprints relative to road and bridge construction, maintenance, and repair.
  • Act courteous and respectful of others with ability to maintain positive customer relations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience transferable from military roles such as Navy: Advanced Equipment Operator, Army: Equipment Operator Concrete & Asphalt Equipment Operator, Air Force: Pavements and Construction Equipment Journeyman, Pavements and Construction Equipment Apprentice.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of workers.

  • Oversee proper equipment maintenance and report equipment repairs to general superintendent and mechanic shop.
  • Monitor the layout, placement, and compaction of materials.
  • Monitor quality control.
  • Verify measurements, slope and thickness for compliance.
  • Communicate with persons outside of the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public and other external sources in an appropriate and professional manner.
  • Read and relay job related information from work orders, plans, or contracts to asphalt crew.
  • Operate the paving equipment, facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
  • Correctly calculate and order job materials as necessary.
  • Timely and regular attendance is essential.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
