About The Position

The Patient Transporter is responsible for providing guest/transport services within the facility. This includes transporting patients, assisting with transfers, discharges, admissions, and escorting patients and visitors. The role also involves transporting materials and equipment, including patients with medical devices such as oxygen cylinders, intravenous pumps, and wound vacs. The transporter will coordinate activities to guide patients and visitors to their destinations, manage capacity management systems and equipment, and ensure the safety and cleanliness of the transport environment. They are also responsible for maintaining an inventory of transport equipment and completing required training and certifications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS certified within 6 months.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds for moving and lifting patients.
  • Ability to push/pull all patient transport equipment.
  • Ability to present a good working relationship with all departments.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform guest/transport services including transports, transfers, discharges, admissions, escorts, and material/equipment transport.
  • Transport patients with medical devices/equipment (oxygen cylinders, intravenous pumps, PCA pumps, wound vac, etc.).
  • Coordinate activities to guide patients, visitors/guests, and staff to desired designations within the facilities.
  • Adjust liter flow and determine PSI in an oxygen cylinder, and transfer canula tubing for wall unit to/from cylinder.
  • Perform safe patient handling, including moving patients, using patient lifts, and performing patient transfers (stand-pivot and lateral).
  • Provide education to patients and visitors/guests regarding room orientation, transport process, and essential support services.
  • Use capacity management system and equipment (Encompass/Epic, I Phone, Halo, computer, etc.) to process tasks.
  • Assist with care and maintenance of transport equipment, ensuring it is safe, clean, and ready for use.
  • Inspect equipment before and after use to identify defective equipment and report immediately to supervisor.
  • Monitor facilities to ensure the environment is safe and clean, ensuring unattended equipment is removed from hallways and does not block essential areas.
  • Maintain equipment inventory throughout facilities, including stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, oxygen cylinders and carriers, and IV poles.
  • Complete and maintain required training, educational programs, and certification.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Adhere to Advocate Health and departmental policies and procedures.
