Indiana University Health System•Indianapolis, IN
•Onsite

About The Position

The Patient Transporter safely moves patients and items from one location to another within IU Health University Hospital using a transport application. The role requires identifying patients with two identifiers, coordinating closely with care teams, and completing safe handoffs with caregivers at both the origin and destination. Transporters move patients between beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs and disconnect or reconnect room oxygen as needed while monitoring oxygen tank levels during transport. The position also involves transporting deceased patients and death paperwork to the morgue, securing patients in controlled cold-temperature storage, and recording morgue inventory and storage time. The transporter stores beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and other items appropriately, identifies the correct bed types for delivery to units, uses personal protective equipment in all room types including isolation rooms, disposes of soiled linen safely, and sanitizes transport equipment with chemicals before and after each use. Patient safety and confidentiality must be maintained. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position on a 7:00 AM–3:00 PM shift. Rotating weekends and holidays are required.
