Patient Transporter - Day Shift

IU Health•Indianapolis, IN
•Onsite

About The Position

The Patient Transporter uses a transport application to safely move patients and items within the hospital. The role includes confirming patient identity with two identifiers, coordinating safe handoffs with caregivers at the origin and destination, and communicating closely with care teams. Transporters disconnect and reconnect oxygen in patient rooms and monitor oxygen tank levels during transport. They safely transfer patients between beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs. The position also involves transporting deceased patients and death paperwork to the morgue, securing patients in controlled cold-temperature storage, logging them into the morgue inventory, and documenting the time they are placed in storage. The transporter properly stores beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and other items; identifies bed types for delivery to units; uses PPE, including in isolation rooms; disposes of soiled linen; and sanitizes transport equipment with chemicals before and after each use. The role requires maintaining patient safety and confidentiality.
