About The Position

Patient Transporters use a transport application to safely move patients and items from one location to another within IU Health Methodist Hospital. They identify patients using two identifiers, coordinate safe handoffs with caregivers at both the origin and destination, and communicate closely with care teams during transport. The role includes disconnecting and reconnecting room-wall oxygen, monitoring oxygen tank levels, and moving patients safely between beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs. The position also involves transporting deceased patients and associated paperwork to the morgue, securing patients in controlled cold-temperature storage, and recording morgue inventory and storage times. Transporters store beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and other items appropriately; identify bed types for delivery; use personal protective equipment in all room types, including isolation rooms; dispose of soiled linen; and sanitize transport equipment with chemicals before and after each use. Patient safety and confidentiality must be maintained. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week role on the 2:00 PM–10:30 PM shift, with rotating weekends and holidays required.
