About The Position

The Patient Transporter is responsible for providing guest and transport services within the facility. This includes transporting patients, assisting with transfers, discharges, admissions, and escorting patients and visitors. The role also involves transporting patients with medical devices and equipment, coordinating activities to guide individuals within the facility, and ensuring the safe handling and transport of patients. Additionally, the transporter will educate patients and visitors, manage transport tasks using specific systems and equipment, and maintain the cleanliness and safety of transport equipment and the environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS certified within 6 months.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds for moving and lifting patients.
  • Ability to push/pull all patient transport equipment.
  • Ability to present a good working relationship with all departments.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Experience in a physically demanding work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients, including those with medical devices/equipment such as oxygen cylinders, intravenous pumps, PCA pumps, and wound vacs.
  • Assist with patient transfers, discharges, and admissions.
  • Escort patients, visitors, and staff to desired designations within the facilities.
  • Coordinate activities to guide patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Adjust oxygen liter flow and determine PSI in oxygen cylinders, and transfer canula tubing.
  • Perform safe patient handling, including moving patients, using patient lifts, and performing transfers (stand-pivot and lateral).
  • Provide education to patients and visitors regarding room orientation, transport process, and essential support services, or direct them to the appropriate resources.
  • Utilize capacity management systems and equipment (Encompass/Epic, I Phone, Halo, computer) to process tasks.
  • Assist with the care and maintenance of transport equipment to ensure it is safe, clean, and ready for use.
  • Inspect equipment before and after use, reporting any defective equipment immediately to a supervisor.
  • Monitor facilities to ensure a safe and clean environment, removing unattended equipment from hallways and ensuring clear access to electrical panels, fire extinguishers, and emergency exits.
  • Maintain inventory of transport equipment throughout the facilities, including stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, oxygen cylinders and carriers, and IV poles.
  • Complete and maintain required training, educational programs, and certifications.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Adhere to Advocate Health and departmental policies and procedures.
