About The Position

The Patient Transporter is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destinations within the hospital. The role includes securing patients and medical attachments, using wheelchairs and other approved rolling equipment, communicating with clinical and support staff, maintaining patient comfort and privacy, and reporting patient distress or equipment problems. The position is located at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth GlenOaks in Glendale Heights, Illinois.

Requirements

Prior patient-facing experience in a healthcare, hospitality, or service environment.
Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy items.

Responsibilities

Safely transport patients, secure IVs and drainage tubes, and secure patients during transport.
Use wheelchairs and other approved rolling stock to transport patients.
Demonstrate competency in transporting all specific age groups.
Transport patients safely, promptly, and accurately using the requested equipment.
Communicate effectively with nursing personnel, clinicians, technicians, reception, and dispatch.
Attend to patient comfort by offering blankets, ensuring modesty, and engaging only in appropriate conversation.
Do not transport patients in severe pain.
Immediately alert nursing staff to signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.
Maintain equipment and report equipment requiring repair.
Comply with applicable regulatory standards, including federal, state, and JCAHO requirements.
Follow facility confidentiality and patient-rights policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
