About The Position
Xanitos is hiring full-time Patient Transporters, Patient Sitters, and Hospital Housekeepers at UPMC Altoona for all shifts. Patient Sitters provide visual and audible observation of assigned patients in alignment with a Registered Nurse and under the direction of the Xanitos leadership team. Patient Transporters safely, accurately, and promptly transport patients, specimens, supplies, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destinations, supporting clinical staff and maintaining a high level of patient and customer satisfaction. They follow proper body mechanics and applicable Xanitos, hospital, department, and regulatory policies, procedures, and standards. Hospital Housekeepers clean and maintain an orderly condition in facilities or locations on the client’s healthcare campus. The positions are offered as 90-day temp-to-hire roles for Environmental Services and Transport. Qualified candidates may receive immediate offers. Applicants must complete a fingerprint scan and clear a Child Abuse Report. Post-offer medical screening, background screening, and drug testing are required. The work may involve elevated exposure risk to blood and body fluids when transporting patients, occasional work near moving mechanical parts, and possible exposure to chemicals requiring special clothing or safety equipment. The work environment is usually quiet. The positions require frequent standing and walking, other physical activities, and frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 pounds. Requirements
- Complete a fingerprint scan and clear a Child Abuse Report.
- Complete post-offer medical screening, background screening, and drug testing.
- High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to frequently climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
- Ability to work in a standing position for long periods.
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to regularly assist staff members and use approved lifting devices to lift and/or move patients.
- Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception; and ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in the medical Environmental Services (EVS) industry.
- Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment.
Responsibilities
- For Patient Sitters, provide visual and audible observation of assigned patients in alignment with a Registered Nurse and as directed by Xanitos leadership.

- Support physicians, nurses, technicians, and therapists by enabling them to perform their duties effectively through patient and item transportation.
- Maintain a high level of patient and customer satisfaction.
- Follow proper body mechanics and Xanitos, hospital, department, and regulatory policies, procedures, and standards.
- For Hospital Housekeepers, clean and maintain an orderly condition in healthcare-campus facilities or locations.
