About The Position

Winchester Hospital is hiring a Patient Transport team member for 24 hours per week. As part of the Volunteer department team, this position supports patient movement and hospital operations by transporting patients, equipment, supplies, and materials throughout the hospital. The role focuses on patient safety, comfort, dignity, and clear communication, while helping optimize patient throughput and respond to equipment needs.

Requirements

BLS certification is required.
All staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

Round the hospital to assess transport inventory and move equipment to optimize operations and maximize patient throughput.
Greet patients, explain the move process, identify the patient, and complete required safety and quality checks and procedures.
Move furniture as needed to accommodate a stretcher or wheelchair.
Involve clinical staff in transferring patients from beds to stretchers or wheelchairs.
Transport patients and their medical charts to hospital departments while maintaining patient dignity, comfort, and safety.
Notify the receiving department upon arrival and conduct a thorough handoff; explain next steps to the patient and stay with the patient when additional comfort or supervision is appropriate.
Transport selected patients upon discharge, wait with them for transportation, and assist them into their vehicle if necessary.
Prioritize multiple transport requests and communicate with requesting departments to resolve conflicts and reduce wait times.
Respond to pages regarding medical codes and retrieve fresh code carts to replenish supplies in involved departments.
Move patient-care equipment and other materials, including laboratory specimens and pharmacy supplies, throughout the hospital as needed.
Respond to equipment issues in a timely manner to ensure equipment availability and maximize its useful life.
