This role is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, preventing duplicate records, and ensuring patient safety through positive identification. The Patient Service Representative checks in and registers patients, obtains and verifies demographic and insurance information, and collects co-pays. They maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, understand insurance basics, and can discuss financial obligations with patients, referring them to Financial Advocates when necessary. The position requires knowledge of various government regulations and forms (HIPAA, EMTALA, etc.), obtaining necessary signatures, and potentially scheduling appointments. The representative provides accurate information about test preparations and arrival times, creates a welcoming environment, answers phones, and manages electronic health record work queues. All teammates start in the Emergency Department.
