About The Position

The Patient Support Technician works as a collaborative member of the health care team in partnership with and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Using principles of Relationship-Based Care, the technician provides direct patient care to a specific group of patients and coordinates activities related to unit processes. This part-time position is in the Rehab Unit at Trinity Health Oakland Campus, with a 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. day shift. Every other weekend and three holidays per year are required for full-time and part-time team members.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.

Nice To Haves

• Six months of direct patient care experience within the past five years.
• Completion of one Medical/Surgical clinical rotation in a nursing educational program.
• Completion of a Patient Care Technician program that includes successful completion of an externship in an acute care facility.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic bedside care and selected procedures under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, including venipuncture, 12-lead EKG, basic blood glucose collection and monitoring, respiratory care, dressing changes, vital-sign collection, recognizing and reporting life-threatening conditions with initial responses, and emptying and measuring drainage equipment.
• Perform activities of daily living appropriate to the patient’s condition under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
• Provide basic nutritional support, including setting up beds, assisting with feeding, and collecting and documenting intake and calorie counts as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned and needed, which may vary by unit, patient type and need, and the number and complexity of treatments provided; duties may include nonclinical work that meets the needs of patients and the care team.
