The Patient Support Technician functions as a collaborative member of the health care team in partnership with and under supervision of the Registered Nurse utilizing principles of Relationship-Based Care, performs direct patient care to a specific group of patients and coordinates activities which relate to the flow of unit processes. 4G is a 26-bed Medical-Surgical Overflow Unit that cares for a diverse patient population with a wide range of medical conditions, including renal failure, respiratory failure, diabetes, sepsis, and heart failure. The variety of diagnoses and patient needs provides an excellent opportunity for nurses to develop and strengthen their clinical skills across multiple specialties. Caregivers on 4G frequently manage complex medical patients and gain experience with advanced treatments and equipment, including: High-flow oxygen therapy, Enteral feeding tubes, Foley catheters, Peritoneal dialysis, Telemetry monitoring.
