About The Position

Under the immediate supervision of the Environmental Services Supervisor, the incumbent performs the following duties adhering to UCSF & department policies and procedures. The role involves general cleaning tasks (90%) and other functions and responsibilities (10%). The primary focus is on maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment for patients, staff, and visitors by following Infection Control Policies. This includes cleaning occupied patient rooms, rooms between patients (discharges), and other assigned areas within Patient Care Units. The role also involves proper disposal of waste (trash, biohazardous waste, recycling, compost) and soiled linen, using approved cleaning chemicals, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of work equipment and storage rooms/closets. Additionally, the position requires completing training for Medications and Auxiliary Staff Competency. Other responsibilities include performing duties as instructed by the supervisor, such as inspections, reporting missing or broken furniture, necessary repairs, and responding to emergencies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Previous hospital, skilled nursing facility, or hotel cleaning experience is required.
  • Is able to organize and prioritize work.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must read, speak, and understand English.
  • Basic arithmetic skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Following Infection Control Policies, the employee maintains a clean, sanitary, safe, and esthetically pleasing environment for patients, staff, and visitors
  • Cleans occupied patient rooms, and rooms between patients (discharges) following department procedures
  • Cleans other assigned areas within the Patient Care Units
  • Disposes of waste (trash, biohazardous waste, recycling, compost) and soiled linen following departmental procedures
  • Uses approved cleaning chemicals to maintain the cleanliness of assigned areas
  • Uses proper body mechanics and body alignment when moving furniture and equipment when perform duties
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of work equipment and storage rooms / closets
  • Complete the training for Medications and Auxiliary Staff Competency
  • Perform other related duties as instructed by immediate supervisor including but not limited to Inspections of one’s own work, report missing or broken furniture and any necessary repairs to support safety and fire life safety compliance.
  • Respond to emergencies following established procedures.
