About The Position

Under direct supervision and according to established procedures, the Patient Sitter observes and monitors assigned patients’ behavior. The role provides safety interventions and basic self-care assistance as needed, with attention to patients’ behavioral needs. The Patient Sitter accompanies patients to clinical studies, documents pertinent observation data, and notifies appropriate nursing personnel when necessary.

The position is at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital, which offers services including heart care, cancer care, gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and cosmetic services.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Physical ability to regularly walk and stand, lift and move equipment as necessary, and assist patients with repositioning, basic activities of daily living, and safety devices.
• Analytical ability to observe discrepancies in behavior, equipment variances, and other quantitative or qualitative factors.
• Communication skills to gather and exchange factual information courteously and tactfully with patients, families, and hospital personnel.
• Interpersonal skills to provide calm verbal feedback, redirect behavior, and reinforce patient safety.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a formal CPR course is desirable.

Responsibilities
