About The Position

Under the direction of the Staff Nurse, the Patient Sitter is assigned to a specific patient and remains in constant attendance to help maintain the patient’s safety. The role requires continuous observation until relieved by a qualified individual and reporting any observed changes in the patient’s condition or behavior to the patient’s nurse.

Requirements

• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Successful completion of University Hospital’s Handle with Care and Sitter Training Courses during orientation and before performing the Patient Sitter role.
• Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.
• Be able to fulfill the physical demand requirements of the job.
• FIT testing is required.
• Attend Handle with Care Training annually and participate in bi-annual drills.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
