About The Position

DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is DMC’s largest hospital, providing services including heart care, cancer care, gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and cosmetic services. The hospital operates more than 21 outpatient care sites and ambulatory surgery centers throughout Wayne and Oakland Counties.

Under direct supervision and according to established procedures, the Patient Sitter observes and monitors assigned patients’ behavior. The role provides safety interventions and basic self-care as needed, with attention to patients’ behavioral needs. The Patient Sitter accompanies patients for clinical studies, documents pertinent observational data, and notifies appropriate nursing personnel when necessary.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Physical ability to regularly walk and stand, lift and move equipment as necessary, and assist patients with repositioning and basic activities of daily living.
• Analytical ability to observe behavioral discrepancies, equipment variances, and other quantitative or qualitative factors.
• Communication skills to gather and exchange factual information with courtesy and tact when interacting with patients, families, and hospital personnel.
• Interpersonal skills to provide calm verbal feedback, redirect behavior, and reinforce patient safety.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a formal CPR course is desirable.
