The position also handles posting all payments, balancing computer reports at day end, and requires a high level of public contact and excellent interpersonal skills. The representative arranges for patient pre-payments and enforces financial agreements prior to service, gathers charge information, codes, enters into the database, completes the billing process, and distributes billing information. They file insurance claims, assist patients with insurance forms, and process unpaid accounts by contacting patients and third-party payers. This role serves as a liaison between the patient and medical support staff, greets patients and visitors courteously, checks patients in, verifies and updates insurance information, and obtains necessary signatures. The representative assists patients with ambulatory difficulties, maintains the appointment book, follows office scheduling policies, provides front office phone support, and screens visitors. They are responsible for gathering, coding, and posting outpatient charges, processing vouchers and private payments, researching address verification, and helping to process mail return statements. The role acquires billing information for all doctors and patients, performs cashiering functions, prepares daily cash deposits, receives payments, and codes/posts payments. They work with patients to secure prepayment sources or financial agreements, participate in account resolution, and assist with outpatient coding and error resolution. The representative processes edits and Customer Service and Collection Requests, identifies trends, communicates problems to management, and updates patient account databases. They maintain and update physician schedules, schedule surgeries and appointments, answer questions regarding appointments and testing, and assemble patient charts. The role updates patient profiles, oversees the waiting area, coordinates patient movement, and assists patients with questions on insurance claims, disability benefits, home health care, and medical equipment. They process benefit correspondence and forms to expedite payment, assist patients in completing forms for pre-certification, and follow up with insurance companies. The representative posts all actions, maintains patient account records, answers patient questions, confirms workers’ compensation claims, prepares disability claims, and follows up on claim payments. They maintain files with referral slips and insurance slips, research information for outpatient billing, code procedures and diagnoses, and key charge information into the system. The role processes and distributes billings, assists with outpatient coding and error resolution, pulls charts in advance, delivers, transports, sorts, and files charts, and picks up lab reports, dictations, X-rays, and correspondence. They check for and refile misfiled charts, maintain orderly files, file medical reports, purge obsolete records, and destroy outdated records. The representative makes new patient charts, repairs damaged charts, assists in locating and filing records, and works with other staff to route charts. They follow medical records policies and procedures, collect payments at time of service, review accounts for timely payment, perform collection actions, and evaluate patient financial status to establish payment plans. The role reviews accounts for collection agency assignment, identifies and resolves billing complaints, and follows up on accounts until zero balance. They participate in educational activities, gather and verify superbills, enter charge and payment information, print and verify daily reports, and back up computer files. The representative registers new patients, updates financial information, maintains confidentiality, and performs related duties as required. As a representative of Prisma Health Clinical Department, they are expected to maintain a neat and professional appearance, demonstrate commitment to serve, and uphold office manual guidelines. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent OR Post-high school diploma.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Basic understanding of ICD-9 and CPT coding preferred.
  • Current Prisma Health team members with 1 year of Prisma Health experience in this job profile will be accepted (in lieu of education requirements).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in technical specialty program of 18 months minimum in length preferred.
  • Multi-specialty group practice setting experience preferred.
