About The Position

This position performs registration duties to include, but not limited to, patient check-in and check-out, payment posting and collection, etc. The role has two tiers, PSR I and PSR II. New hires begin at PSR I and are promoted to PSR II upon successful completion of core competencies. PSR I serves as an ambassador to the organization, greeting patients, managing the waiting room, performing general housekeeping, and routing patients. PSR II registers new and existing patients, manages insurance documentation, assesses eligibility for sliding fee scales, assists with enrollment in Medicaid and Alaska Marketplace, collects and posts payments, checks out patients, makes reminder calls, generates no-show letters, answers phones, and schedules appointments. Both tiers must comply with center policies, operate office equipment, and participate in quality improvement activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • One-year recent experience in office setting
  • One-year recent customer service experience or two years recent customer service experience
  • Technically proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Thorough knowledge of common office equipment (copier, fax, printer, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to make change and reconcile a cash drawer

  • Prior experience in a medical, behavioral health or dental office

Responsibilities

  • Performs registration duties including patient check-in and check-out.
  • Posts and collects payments.
  • Serves as ambassador to patients, vendors, and visitors.
  • Performs greeting activities in the waiting room, welcomes and assists patients.
  • Monitors length of time in waiting room and keeps in contact with patients.
  • Organizes and surface cleans reception and other public areas.
  • Provides miscellaneous forms and requested items to patients.
  • Performs general housekeeping including inspecting facility entrances and exits, waiting room, office areas, and restrooms.
  • Routes patients appropriately.
  • Registers new patients and updates registration for established patients.
  • Receives and inputs insurance documentation for patients.
  • Introduces and assesses eligibility for sliding fee scale (SFS), qualifies for SFS and documents verification.
  • Completes training requirements to become a Certified Application Counselor.
  • Identifies uninsured patients and assists with Medicaid and Alaska Marketplace enrollment.
  • Scans, names, and inserts patient data into electronic health record.
  • Collects money and posts patient payments.
  • Checks out patients.
  • Generates two-day patient reminder calls.
  • Generates no-show letters.
  • Scans updated patient information into Docutrack.
  • Answers multiple telephone lines and routes calls.
  • Schedules appointments utilizing templates.
  • Complies with center’s policies and procedures.
  • Operates specialized office equipment.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
